This 1.5 day conference will focus on Indigenous Engagement, reconciliation between Indigenous people and all Canadians, and the role the public participation profession can play and the contribution we can make to this important work.
This Signature Event will go beyond "duty to consult" and broaden the conversation to look at how we engage with Indigenous people in both rural and urban settings. We will endeavour to create a "safe space" for this event that allows people to share and explore honestly, openly and with integrity and compassion.
A key highlight for the signature event is the opportunity to participate in the Blanket Exercise, an interactive learning experience that teaches the Indigenous rights history we are rarely taught. The Blanket Exercise engages participants on an emotional and intellectual level and effectively educates and increases empathy. The exercise will be followed by a talking circle.
