Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet the project requirements. Project Management tools and resources are a natural fit for IAP2’s Five Steps for Public Participation Planning.

In this interactive workshop, participants will map project management tools to the five steps for public participation planning. Applying a project management lens to your planning process will strengthen your outcomes and increase your chances for engagement success.

  • Public Participation Practitioners
  • Project Managers of Public Engagement Projects
  • Project Sponsors of Public Engagement Projects
  • Anyone interested in learning basic concepts of project management
This course builds on the Foundations Planning for Effective Public Participation course and is recommended as a prerequisite.

Trainer: Carole Spicer, PMP

Strong relationships are one of the core values of Carole R. Spicer, owner and founder of Spicer Facilitation & Learning. A certified master trainer and facilitator, Carole uses her experience to help her clients achieve desired outcomes. She has worked in both private and public sectors.  Carole is skilled in Adult Learning Principles and creates a safe environment for her clients to share and learn new skills and information. She prides herself on the ability to customize solutions to meet the unique needs of the people she works with.


With over 10 years in public participation, she is experienced in facilitating discussions with stakeholders that hold differing views.  She has worked extensively with the not-for-profit sector on strategic planning and stakeholder engagement.
