IAP2 Canada Board of Directors — Call for Nominations (2026–2029)

IAP2 Canada invites members and non-members to step forward and serve on its Board of Directors.

As a Board Member, you will play a meaningful role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of the organization, while advancing the practice of public participation across Canada.

The Board works closely with committees and initiatives that drive key areas such as professional development, research, and community engagement, ensuring alignment across the organization’s priorities.

    Who are we looking for?


    We’re seeking individuals who lead with integrity, accountability, and a strong sense of responsibility to the organization and its community. Ideal candidates are:

    • Strategic thinkers who can guide long-term direction and navigate complexity 

    • Governance-minded leaders who understand oversight, fiduciary duty, and board accountability 

    • Legally informed or experienced with the ability to contribute to sound decision-making, risk awareness, and compliance 

    • Financially literate and comfortable supporting responsible stewardship of resources 

    • Values-driven with a commitment to advancing inclusive and meaningful public participation 

    • Collaborative and curious, bringing diverse perspectives and engaging in thoughtful dialogue 


    We’re looking for individuals who take ownership, ask the right questions, and contribute with both confidence and care—helping shape the future of engagement in Canada.

    2026 Elections Timeline

    • April 1 – Nominations open 

    • May 8 – Nominations close (*extended from April 30)

    • May 18-22 – Review & interviews 

    • May 22–31 – Voting period (if required) 

    • June – Results announced (AGM) 

    • July – Board orientation 

    • September 1 – Term begins

    Term & Expectations

    Time Commitment

    • Term: 3 years (maximum two consecutive terms) 

    • Start Date: September 1, 2026 

    • Structure: Staggered terms with ~⅓ of Directors elected annually

    • Approximately 6–10 hours per month, including:

    • Board and committee meetings 

    • Preparation and document review 

    • Occasional strategic discussions 

    • The Board also meets in person at least once annually for strategic planning.

    Compensation

    Nomination Process

    • Board roles are volunteer-based.

    • Approved expenses, including travel for in-person meetings, may be reimbursed in accordance with IAP2 Canada policies.

    • Submit the application via the link

    • Applications reviewed by the Nominations & Elections Committee 

    • Shortlisted candidates may be invited to interview and complete an assessment

    • An election will be held if required

    Conflict of Interest

    To ensure strong governance and avoid potential conflicts of interest, individuals who are currently engaged in revenue-generating roles with IAP2 Canada are not eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. This includes, but is not limited to, active trainers, facilitators, or others who receive compensation through IAP2 Canada programs or services.

    Individuals in these roles are welcome to apply once they are no longer in a paid or revenue-generating relationship with IAP2 Canada.
