Designing & Leading Engagement is a Level 2 course that introduces practitioners to the design and plan phases of the practice framework, providing them with the opportunity to develop public participation and engagement practice plans. This includes scoping, community mapping, determining purpose and objectives and levels of influence, choosing appropriate methods and managing resources, while considering the needs of diverse audiences.

Shawn Bravender (CP3) is especially grateful to be one of Canada’s trendsetting Certified Public Participation Professionals and is proud to hold the CP3 designation. With over 24 years of experience, Shawn's approach is through mindful community engagement design and implementation, strategic communication, expert facilitation and sound advice. Throughout his career, Shawn has been privileged to work with exceptional P2 professionals and contribute to meaningful engagement outcomes for effective decision making throughout Alberta and across Canada. From Regional Planning to neighbourhood street design and from explosive open houses with over 1,500 “passionate” attendees to strategic interviews, Shawn loves to help the public, Indigenous communities and stakeholder groups face challenges, overcome obstacles, and ultimately grow!
With experience in leading teams and planning engagement projects from the high-level to the fine grained, Shawn understands a project needs a strong technical foundation as well as community support to succeed. Much of his work has included dealing with emotional dysregulation and outrage. As a skilled facilitator and an engaging public speaker, Shawn’s well-rounded approach and ability combines communications, planning, and engineering with community engagement that instils confidence in clients and results in successful projects.
