Closes: 4/16/2026
The City of Abbotsford is seeking a temporary full-time Senior Community Engagement Specialist (Term) to provide senior-level strategic leadership and hands-on delivery for multiple, complex, and high-profile community engagement and communications initiatives including the Plan for 2050 program and the Water Source Development project. Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Digital Media, this role acts as the senior engagement lead across several concurrent initiatives, with significant Indigenous, stakeholder, and community engagement components. The position is responsible for leading the development and delivery of clear, consistent, culturally appropriate, and defensible community engagement strategies that support informed decision-making by leadership and Council. The Senior Community Engagement Specialist builds on the City’s established engagement culture, frameworks, and tools—including the IAP2 Spectrum and Let’s Talk Abbotsford—while applying current best practices in public engagement, reconciliation-informed approaches, and digital participation. Digital engagement platforms such as Let’s Talk Abbotsford, Abbotsford.ca, and social media are used to promote accessible, inclusive participation. Engagement approaches are designed to reduce barriers and reach under-represented or seldom-heard communities through an equity-informed and culturally competent lens, while strengthening organizational capacity through guidance, templates, and coaching for internal teams. Some evening or weekend work may be required to support engagement activities. The candidate will have completed the following: -A university diploma or degree in Communications, Public Engagement, Planning, Public Policy, or a related field. -A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in community or public engagement, preferably within a municipal or public-sector environment. -IAP2 certification or an equivalent credential and familiarity with digital and design tools such as Canva, Firefly, MATE, or Adobe Creative Cloud are considered assets. At the City of Abbotsford, we are striving to create a challenging and rewarding environment for our employees to thrive. We’re also committed to creating a workplace that fosters a culture of diversity and inclusion by attracting; retaining and developing a talented and diverse workforce that broadly reflects the community and citizens we serve. As such, we encourage applications from individuals from all genders, backgrounds and underrepresented groups. We will be happy to work with applicants requesting accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.
