Your Opportunity: Primary Care Alberta (PCA) has an exciting opportunity to shape how people experience primary care across Alberta. As Lead, Patient & Provider Experience, you will lead high-impact engagement and communication strategies that strengthen trust, elevate voices, and drive meaningful system transformation. Reporting to the Executive Director, Communications & Engagement, you will influence how PCA connects with patients, providers, staff, and communities—ensuring every interaction reflects transparency, inclusion, and a commitment to better health outcomes. Your leadership will advance a patient- and provider-centered approach, embedding engagement at the heart of care design, service delivery, and organizational decision-making. You will play a critical role in guiding complex, province-wide initiatives, providing strategic counsel to senior leadership, and shaping reputation, change, and stakeholder engagement strategies during a time of significant evolution in the healthcare system. As a senior leader, you will build and inspire a high-performing team while forging strong partnerships across the system. Description: Working within a matrix environment, this role collaborates with the Executive Director & Leads of PCA's Communications & Engagement team to foster a culture aligned with PCA values. Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to engagement staff & cross-functional teams. Support staff in developing & executing strategic engagement plans, strengthening capability, and promoting growth. Cultivate a high-performing environment focused on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient engagement strategies that enhance access, experience, satisfaction, and health outcomes. Partner with clinical & operational teams to integrate the patient voice into care design, delivery, and quality improvement. Oversee advisory networks & feedback mechanisms such as surveys & focus groups. Drive community engagement aligned with population health priorities. Develop outreach initiatives that address needs, reduce disparities, and build trust. Build relationships with public health partners, community organizations, and key stakeholders. Represent PCA at community events, forums, and media. Strengthen physician & clinical engagement by developing strategies that support collaboration, governance participation, and performance improvement. Partner with leadership to address engagement challenges & clinician experience. Lead the organization-wide engagement strategy with clear goals, metrics & outcomes. Use data & insights to evaluate effectiveness & guide improvements. Prepare reports for senior leadership & apply leading practices where appropriate. Ensure all engagement approaches are culturally responsive, equitable, patient-centered, and compliant with healthcare regulations, privacy standards, and organizational policies. Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or diploma in communication, public relations, journalism or a directly related field. Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare engagement, patient experience, community relations, or physician relation Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated leadership experience with cross-functional or multidisciplinary teams. Experience using communication & engagement metrics and qualitative/quantitative data to inform strategy. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree considered an asset. Membership and affiliation with IABC, IAP2 or similar professional organizations.
