Reaching as many people as effectively as possible is vital in any public participation process, and that's especially true when an area is demographically diverse. The city of Surrey, BC, had to reach out to a wide range of ethnicities and interests in updating its Parks, Recreation and Culture Strategy. So did TriMet, the public transportation agency serving the Portland, Oregon, region, as it expanded a transit service through neighborhoods of historically under-represented residents. Join us and find out how these processes accomplished it: they won the IAP2 Canada and IAP2 USA (respectively) Core Values Awards for Respect for Diversity, Inclusion and Culture.
