IAP2’s Public Participation for Decision Makers helps decision makers get the best value from a public participation process. The session considers a decision maker’s point of view and offers a perspective on how public participation can be integrated into your decision-making processes and lead to better decisions. Participants will learn about the benefits and risks of public participation, what makes public participation meaningful, when to use and when not to use it. Walk away with a clear understanding of the role of decision maker in public participation and the principles of effective public participation.

Trainer: Lara Tierney, CP3

Lara became a licensed trainer in 2014 and in 2019 became a Certified Public Participation Professional (CP3). She has been working in the field of public participation for 15 years. Her experience is both from municipal (The CIty of Calgary) and consulting perspectives. She enjoys working on projects in diverse fields including community development, land use planning, transportation, open spaces, law and the arts. She is currently working in Stakeholder Relations for a mega LRT project. Lara was pleased to be able to train the IAP2 Foundations Planning course virtually with a group of participants from BC to Newfoundland.
